Improvement of Thermoluminescence Properties of α-Al2O3 Using Metallic Dopants for Dosimetry Application

In this study, dosimetric phosphor, α-Al2O3 nanopowder was prepared using the soluble combustion method and its thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics were analyzed. In order to improve thermoluminescence properties of α-Al2O3, the nanopowder was doped with Mg and Li, transition metals and was annealed. Structural and morphological characteristics of synthesized α-Al2O3:Mg,Li nanopowder phosphorwere identifiedvia X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy. Finally, thermoluminescence properties of the α-Al2O3 nanopowder, doped with different amounts of Mg (0.2 wt% - 0.8wt%) and Li(0.5wt%-1.5wt%) were studied. The best thermoluminescence effect was achieved via the co-doped of Mg and Li in α-Al2O3 nanopowder. X-rays analysis determined that the crystalline structure of the synthesized Mg and Li doped α-Al2O3 was completely consistent with α-Al2O3crystalline structure. Also, TL analysis showed that after thermal annealing, some peaks of curves disappear. The sample of α-Al2O3:Mg0.4% had the peak before and after annealing; the sample of α-Al2O3:Mg0.4%,Li1%, had the strongest peak after the annealing. For synthesis of α-Al2O3 samples by solvent-combustion method, the raw material of (Al(NO3)3.9H2O) and (H4N2CO) were used. In addition to the abovementioned materials, LiNO3 and Mg(NO3)2 were also used to prepare the doped speciens.

Instructional Development Media of Environmental Education (EE) Learning for Visual Impairment Primary Students in Indonesia: A Baseline Analysis for Adopted Priorities Plan Preparation

Learning process for visual impairment students have been spread out in Asia since tens year ago, however particular learning subject or school situation which focused on EE learning seems less heard and examined. At visual impairment school, the present of children with various level of vision should be facilitated not only by adjustment treatment, but also instructional development media as a wider definition i.e.: covering curriculum interpretation, school cultures, learning method and its didactic situation to shape environmental awareness of learners. Kitakyushu of Japan as eco-model city has been widely known succeeded to develop eco-society due to last 30 years to meet society awareness. However, some best practices on how to equip the awareness on primary school students based on city cases, especially for visual impairment students was missed to be frequently investigated. The paper aimed to gain instructional media of EE learning for a visual impairment school in Bandung - Indonesia as adoption and further development of “Kitakyushu Eco Model/KEM” on education and society awareness sector at primary school level. A baseline study of visual impairment school at Bandung is essentially needed in order to gain initial picture, while adoption messages from similar school at Kitakyushu is important to produce adopted priority plan. Set questionnaires and interview of annual school program, school cultures, learning methods and its didactical situation for teachers and principal in a particular blind school at Bandung are analysed to gain preliminary image of instructional media. Similar instrument with certain adjustment at Kitakyushu visual impairment schools are also produced and analysed to gain adopted priorities plan as starting point to arrange instructional media of EE learning. Similarities and findings from both schools are discussed, while adoption result produced from Kitakyushu eco-model is prepared to investigate deeply with particular didactical situation at Indonesian school at further research.

Employee Outsourcing in Packing Plant PT Semen Padang can be Incidental Interrupted Disease that Affected by the Performance and Education Level

Outsourced Worker Packing Plant Indarung PT Semen Padang has the risk of experiencing respiratory symptoms due to continuous inhalation of cement dust. This research was done in Packing Plant Indarung PT Semen Padang, sample of 75 people. Data analysis using Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that 52% of outsourced workers experienced respiratory problems, 64% younger workers (<40 years), 69.4% higher education (senior high school or college graduation), 64% long service life (≥ 5 years). Statistical test results obtained p value = 0.032, it shows there is a significant relationship between age with respiratory symptoms (p value <0.05). Statistical test results obtained p value = 1.000, meaning there is no significant relationship between education level with respiratory symptoms symptoms (p value<0.05). Statistical test results obtained p value = 0.029, it shows there is a significant relationship between the working period with respiratory symptoms (p value <0.05). There was a significant relationship between the duration of work with respiratory symptoms. It is expected that the company conducts health checks and health socialization for workers.

The Relationship between Total Quality Management and Staff’s Job Performance at Teacher Training Universities

The purpose of current study is to investigate the structural pattern of the impact of comprehensive quality management on job performance of the staff at teacher training universities. A descriptive-correlational research method was used for the purposes of the study. The statistical population consisted all the staff of teacher training universities in 32 provinces of the country including 2553 individuals. The sample size was estimated 335 individuals based on Morgan’s table. A random cluster method was used for sampling. Total Quality Management Questionnaire, developed by US Federal Quality Institute, and Pearson job performance questionnaire (2000) were used to collect related data. The results showed that the two questionnaires used in this study are highly reliable. Therefore, the positive and significant impact of comprehensive quality management on job performance was confirmed.

Preparation and Evaluation of Optical Properties of MnFe2O4/ZrO2 Nanocomposite

Degradation of organic pollutants such as synthetic dyes, which have a deleterious effect on the lives of humans, has extensively become the aim of researches in today’s scientific world. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) such as photocatalysis has carried out, as useful methods for mineralizing organic pollutants in aqueous media via irradiating the nanocomposite by UV. In present work, MnFe2O4/ZrO2nanocomposite was prepared via impregnation technique and characterized by using XRD, FT-IR and SEM. The photocatalytic activity of the supported MnFe2O4 was examined via degradation of different dyes (Methylene Blue and Methyl Orange,), then some parameters such as pH, the amount of photocatalyst, irradiation time, temperature and oxygen flow were optimized in order to improve the reaction yield of destruction of different dyes. The obtained results confirmed that the prepared composite had a great photocatalytic and sonocatalytic activity against different dyes in aqueous media.

Science, Religion and Amazonia: Education for Sustainability

This article analyzes the relationships between science and religion and the origins of universe and the life in the context of sustainability. It is organized in five stages. The first is a brief retrospective on the importance of the evolution of genesis of the natural sciences to improvement the techniques and humanity. The second articulates science to religion emphasizing its contradictions, ruptures and links with sustainability. The third approach prioritizes the contours and convergences between science and religion to these broader seminal questions. In the fourth stage, the “nature × culture” confrontation is illustrated through scenarios that show the ecological, theological and scientific importance of Amazonia to the current civilizational framework driven by sustainability and complex philosophical issues. It also presents the importance of sustainability for citizenship education, mankind and the planet’s future. Finally, the fifth part of this article concludes with important considerations on the insertion of sustainability in social, economic, scientific and religious processes. As proposed by authors, this article has broadened the meaning of sustainability notion and reaffirmed the importance of science and religion for the mankind’s future. In this complex panel, this article puts new elements in the dialogue on science and religion, and the education for sustainability.

Reducing Earthquake Effects based on the Proposed Model of Physical Crisis Management (Case Study: Historical Texture of Yazd City)

With the criteria and effective indicators in vulnerability and distinguishing the vulnerable spots at texture level, the study aims to develop a new model in Crisis Management to prevent and reduce the probable earthquake risks in the historical texture of Yazd. It is a descriptive-analytical method. Inferential statistics such as correlation coefficient and regression coefficient have been used for data analyses. For developing strategic planning, the network analysis model, route analysis and SWOT method are used. The network analysis model result show that physical index such as low passage width, building age, demolition, quality of building, building density, separation area, type of materials, number of floors, with the value of 0.22 has the maximum role in vulnerability of the texture during the earthquake. In this regard, to develop solution for reducing the historical texture vulnerability of Yazd is based on the Crisis Management model. Before the occurrence of earthquake the phase will have a feedback that along with awareness to the citizens regarding earthquake, the zones with high vulnerability and individual blocks with complete information have been identified. A comprehensive database about the development of comprehensive planning for the prevention stage; and after the implementing the measures their feedback are tested in number of samples. This stage help to identify the historical texture, organizing and physical texture problems that has not been referred before in any earthquake Crisis Management models.

Integration of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Fuzzy Theory Model for Improving Quality of Cassava Opak Chips

The cassava (Manihot Utilissima) can be processed into many kinds of processed cassava, one of them is the cassava Opak chips. The cassava Opak chips is a traditional snacks similar with the most popular crackers, made of a tasty, round and thin, boiled cassava. The cassava chips, for all this time, become the source of living for the community of processed cassava include another processed cassava. This business classified as home industry because it’s production processed individually in each producer’s home. In the home industries or small industries, the cassava Opak chips production processed manually with the quality product which hasn’t meet the standard of food quality and customer needs. Therefore, need to do the cassava Opak chips quality improvement so they can produce the snacks. The cassava Opak chips made of cassava which can give the attraction and the quality warranty to the consumer. This observation aims to designing the cassava Opak chips product which has the certain quality based on consumer needs and wishes with the Integrated Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Method and Fuzzy Theory. This observation performed by interviewing the consumer, the Voice of Customer forming, questionnaires distribution, GAP calculations, technical characteristics determination, the House of Quality matrix making, draft concepts development, part specification determination, Part Deployment matrix making, and visualization design. Based on the result of the processed data on first and second iteration on QFD, we can get the technical classification and specification part, also recommendation to improve the cassava Opak chips product’s quality.
